We wouldn’t be called Advanced Family Dentistry if we weren’t dedicated to keeping up with the latest information to improve the dental implant experience for our patients. This includes techniques, materials, and technology, which we’ll showcase here. We’re proud to offer high tech tools that help Dr. David Taler and our staff make more accurate assessments and treatment plans, but also keep the patients comfortable in our office.
When it comes to surgical treatments as complicated as dental implant placement, having the ability to see all the important parts at once is crucial. With a 3D cone beam scanner, we can take images of the patient’s jaw, teeth, and skull to create a 3D model of their head. This ensures that the implant (or another device) will be accurately crafted and placed, leaving little room for error.
At our office, the Planmeca Promax is one such 3D cone beam scanner and allows us to understand how the patient’s jaw and teeth interact. We can also see details that can’t be seen with the naked eye, such as jawbone depletion, symptoms of teeth grinding, underlying signs of disease, and more. This helps Dr. David Taler to better assess your condition, candidacy, and placement for dental implants.
In addition to the 3D cone beam scanner, we also offer digital x-rays and utilize an intraoral camera system. Digital x-rays produce 90% less radiation and can be stored electronically, instead of in bulging manila folders on scans. Instead of placing film, these x-rays use a sensor that can be shifted around the mouth. If need be, digital x-rays can be shared with other dental or medical providers for more accurate diagnoses and a faster assessment.
An intraoral camera is different from x-rays; instead of taking images of the jaws and teeth, it actually takes a photo of each individual tooth. As you return for your appointments and checkups, we can compare images of each tooth to how it looks now, and track your progress with any changes to your oral health. The intraoral camera also allows us to get up close, closer than the naked eye can see. From broken fillings to the warning signs of a cavity, these can be caught more easily so that treatment can begin early.
What if you’re interested in dental implants, but have dental anxiety? The solution lies with sedation dentistry, wherein we offer oral sedation, nitrous oxide, IV sedation, and general sedation. Each method of sedation has varying effects, and the right choice of sedation will all depend on the patient’s needs and what Dr. Taler recommends.
Oral sedation takes the form of a pill, and is taken a few hours or the night before your appointment. It’ll help relax you and keep you calm even before you reach our office. Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, can be administered after you sit down in the chair. It takes the form of a gas that’s inhaled, and only removed after the procedure is over. IV sedation is a deeper form of sedation that is administered through an IV in the patient’s arm; it puts the patient in a “twilight sleep”, wherein they will be conscious and can communicate with the doctor, but will have no memory of the procedure.
You can rest assured that your smile is in safe hands, thanks to our advanced technology. We have the means and the tools to provide quality dental implant services for patients with missing teeth.
